EMPOWER THE VOLUNTEER
Special Needs Awareness & Empowerment Workshop.
Understand • Connect • Support • Empower
Volunteers can make an incredible difference in the lives of individuals with special needs.
At IndigoGap Wellness Center, we believe a great volunteer experience begins with understanding, patience, compassion, confidence, and meaningful human connection.
Empower the Volunteer is an interactive introductory workshop designed to help volunteers feel more comfortable and prepared when supporting children, teens, or adults with different abilities.
What Volunteers Will Learn
Connect First — Build trust through kindness, friendship, patience, and positive interaction.
Communication — Learn simple ways to communicate clearly, listen, observe, and respect individual differences.
Awareness & Understanding — Recognize that every individual has different strengths, needs, preferences, and ways of participating.
Patience & Emotional Awareness — Learn to stay calm, give appropriate space and time, and respond positively during challenging moments.
Breathe • Pause • Respond — Use simple breathing and mindfulness techniques to help volunteers manage their own stress and remain present.
Inclusive Participation — Learn how to encourage participation in sports, fitness, wellness, recreation, and group activities without focusing on limitations.
Our Volunteer Philosophy
Be a friend. Be present. Be patient. Be yourself.
The volunteer's role is not to be a therapist or clinician. It is to support, encourage, include, connect, and help create a positive experience while following the organization's established safety and support procedures.
TOGETHER, WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Ideal for schools • youth programs • sports programs • special-needs organizations • community groups • camps • student volunteers • corporate volunteer teams.
